Have your say on plans to revitalise Altrincham Interchange
Everyone can now have their say on plans to radically improve Altrincham Interchange through widespread consultation starting today 6 September.
GMITA has asked GMPTE to hold a consultation on plans to redevelop the existing interchange facilities and improve links between bus, train and tram services.
The proposals include transforming the existing interchange into a new, modern, fully accessible station, with improvements to safety, security and passenger services, including accessible toilets and baby changing facilities.
The £19 million re-development will provide a modern concourse with a single, integrated ticket office and better integration between services via a new accessible footbridge.
The rail station buildings will be substantially retained and enhanced with the impact to the existing platform canopies kept to a minimum wherever possible.
Improvements will also be introduced to the rail platforms, the station building next to platform one, the entrance to the station from Moss Lane and the pedestrian area on Stamford New Road.
Councillor Ian Macdonald, Chair of GMITA, said: "The comments we receive during this consultation will let us know if there are further areas we need to consider before finalising our proposals, so I would encourage as many people as possible to get involved."
"We are keen to ensure that we provide a facility that not only caters for the needs of passengers today and long into the future, but which also celebrates the history of the existing interchange."
Councillor Matt Colledge, Leader of Trafford Council, said: "It is vital that the final proposals for the interchange take account of the views of local people and those who use the facility on a regular basis."
"This consultation gives Altrincham interchange users the chance to influence the final plans and so it is important everyone gets involved and have their say."
Staff will be on hand to discuss the proposals at the following exhibitions:
- Altrincham Interchange Booking Hall: 14 September & 23 September (from 7am to 7pm) and 2 October (from 10am to 4pm).
- Altrincham Library: 28 September (from 12pm to 7pm).
- Altrincham Stamford Quarter Shopping Centre: 5 October (from 10am to 4pm).
In addition, a special meeting of the Altrincham North and South Forums will be held on 18 October from 6pm at Altrincham Town Hall for people to discuss the proposals.
Unstaffed exhibitions will be on permanent display at both Altrincham Library and Trafford Council's buildings at Sale Waterside from Monday 6 September until Monday 18 October.

Six thousand leaflets will also be distributed, encouraging passengers, residents and businesses to comment.
The consultation, which will close on Monday 25 October, will feed into the development of the final proposals for the new interchange in advance of a full planning application being submitted to Trafford Council.
Funding for the work has been prioritised through the Greater Manchester Transport Fund investment programme, and will be delivered by GMPTE in partnership with Trafford Council, Network Rail and other key stakeholders.
Construction could start during 2011 and be completed by the end of 2013.
